Montreal to add 200 kilometres of safe cycling lanes, 10 new/improved bike paths by 2027

“A city that makes room for cycling is a safer city for everyone!”

Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante has announced the city’s plan to add 200 kilometres of safe cycling lanes, with 10 new/improved bike paths as part of the Réseau express vélo (REV) by 2027.

Vision Vélo 2023–2027, informed by public health recommendations, aims to increase the safety of city cycling, encourage active mobility, accelerate the ecological transition and implement “territorial equity.” The latter point is a reference to adding cycling infrastructure to underprivileged, underserved neighbourhoods such as Montréal Nord, Parc Extension and Saint-Michel.
