Statistics Canada projects that the country’s population will reach 56.5 million by 2068

A report by Statistics Canada has confirmed that the country’s population will reach 56.5 million by the year 2068, almost 50% higher than 38.2 million, as recorded last year.

As fertility rates in Canada are currently declining, the increase in population is projected to come largely from immigration. According to Statistics Canada 25.9% of the population will be aged 65+ in 2068, and the average age in the country will increase from 41.7 last year to 44.1 years in 2043 and 45.1 years in 2068.
