Trudeau: “This pandemic has sucked for everyone,” Canadians remain united

“A few people shouting and waving swastikas does not define who Canadians are.”

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau came out of pandemic isolation this evening for an emergency house debate (watch the live feed here) on how to deal with the ongoing occupation of Ottawa, as called for by NDP leader Jagmeet Singh this morning. He also noted that while “people have the right to disagree with the government,” “a few people shouting and waving swastikas does not define who Canadians are.” The latter statement was made in response to interim Conservative party leader Candice Bergen claiming that Canadians are more divided than ever. Trudeau countered by noting that the vast majority of Canadians are vaccinated and believe in science.

Trudeau said that “this pandemic has sucked for all Canadians,” and that the way out of it is to “continue to listen to science, to continue to lean on one another.”

“Everyone’s tired of COVID but these protests are not the way to get through it. We shouldn’t be fighting one another, we should be united to fight the virus.”
