Today’s announcement follows Monday’s news that the league is suspending play as of today due to the pandemic, with practices resuming on Dec. 26 and games tentatively starting up again on Dec. 28. The NHL intends to use the two weeks that players were supposed to spend in Beijing to play postponed games.

The NHL pauses games until after Christmas.

Along with cancellations across the league over the past week and enhanced safety measures including daily testing, the Montreal Canadiens had already postponed this week’s games in New York and New Jersey and shut down the Habs practice facility in Brossard until after Christmas. The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics are scheduled to take place from Feb. 4–20, 2022.
