Quebec healthcare union strongly opposed to work mandate for infected nurses

A Quebec healthcare union has voiced their opposition to today’s announcement that certain workers who test positive for COVID-19 will be expected to stay on the job.

“‘Keeping infected, but asymptomatic, nursing staff at work is too risky.’ The president of the FIQ Julie Bouchard is strongly opposed to it.”

Quebec Health Minister Christian Dubé announced the new measure today as a way to retain much-needed hospital staff, as the pandemic has driven up hospitalizations dramatically this week. Dubé responded to the statement by the FIQ, which represents 76,000 nurses, nursing assistants, respiratory therapists and perfusionists in the province.

“We all have a responsibility to support nurses in the field and care for vulnerable patients. We have to manage the risk together. I will always be listening to resume your solutions.”
