Montreal is declaring a state of emergency over Omicron

There are a record 5,043 new cases in Quebec today, 1,656 of which are in Montreal.

In an ongoing press conference, Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante announced that the city is declaring a state of emergency over the Omicron variant.

“To better cope with the turbulence caused by the Omicron variant, Montreal is declaring a state of emergency. It is one more tool to ensure the continuity of public services during the health crisis and to support the health network and vulnerable people.

“With our experience, we will once again be there to ensure the safety of essential workers in the agglomeration and of Montreal households. We will make sure we don’t leave anyone behind.”
