Plante: “More than ever, we must encourage Montreal businesses & remain united”

Mayor Valérie Plante reacted to today’s new public health restrictions by encouraging Montrealers to support local.

Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante has reacted to today’s new public health restrictions by releasing a statement encouraging Montrealers to support local and “remain united” at this difficult time. Along with previously announced 50% capacity limits on restaurants and retail stores (in effect today), the Quebec government announced that bars, performance venues, movie theatres, gyms, spas, sports centres and venues and casinos will have to close today at 5 p.m., for an undetermined time.

Mayor Plante, who announced on Saturday that she herself had tested positive for COVID-19, encouraged Montrealers to support Montreal businesses and restaurants in the face of the new measures.

“Tightening health measures is difficult, but necessary to get through this wave. We are wholeheartedly with the affected businesses, restaurateurs and owners. More than ever, we must encourage our local businesses and remain united!”

Valérie Plante released a second statement addressed specifically to those in Montreal’s cultural scene, wishing them courage during this difficult time.

“Tonight, I think of the actresses and actors of the cultural milieu who are once again going through significant challenges. We will continue to support you as we have been doing since the start of the pandemic, and all of Montreal is behind you. Courage!”
