95 Omicron cases in Montreal: “We must reduce our contacts now”

The city’s public health director Dr. Mylène Drouin spoke about pandemic fatigue, stressing that mental as well as physical health and safety measures should all be prioritized.

Montreal public health director Dr. Mylène Drouin gave a press conference this afternoon, revealing that there are now 95 cases of the Omicron variant in Montreal. Not only should contacts be drastically reduced, but holiday plans may have to be collectively reviewed.

“There are 95 identified cases of the Omicron variant in Montreal. Transmission of the Omicron variant should be slowed down and delayed as much as possible. We may collectively have to review some of the holiday plans we had in mind. We must reduce our contacts now.

“Let us show solidarity with those who cross our path and who are potentially more vulnerable: relatives, friends, neighbours. There is pandemic fatigue — it’s normal. However, we must continue to apply barrier gestures and avoid end-of-year parties.”

Drouin also noted the strain that this news, increased safety measures and added isolation could bring to the mental health of Montrealers.

“The next few days could bring many ups and downs. Please don’t stay alone with your emotions. Resources exist. Demoralized? Talk to someone and find out about your loved ones who live alone.”
