Less than a year after December’s negatively received Revival, Slim Shady is back with a fire in his belly. “Tried not 2 overthink this 1,” the rapper tweeted when revealing the surprise release on Twitter. Such a statement rings true in many respects. There is no chase for carefully crafted pop hit, nor is the album too long, unlike all of Mathers’ releases from Recovery onward. A few “Old Man Yells at Cloud” moments removed, Em proves that if nothing else, he can still rap his ass off better than the lion’s share. 7.5/10 Trial Track: “The Ringer”
