Cap’s Last Words (April 2007)

This chapter from Captain America Vol.5 #25 had ripped apart every fan of the hero left, right and centre. Spoiler alert: the captain meets his end in this chapter, in a rather dramatic fashion, at the steps of the courthouse.

Right before the scene, the entire crowd was vehemently booing him and sloganeering against him, but the man presented himself in the true colours of a super hero. Completely disregarding his injury or his killer, his only concern was the safety of the crowd and his last words were – “Sharon…the crowd…get them to…safety…no more…innocents…hurt…”.

Though for some, the scene presented itself as an excellent marketing plot; on the other hand, to a large majority, it was the perfect end to the Civil War.

“No, YOU Move” (January 2007)

Well, everyone knows that among all the superheroes, Captain America delivers some of the most remarkable and impressionable patriotic speeches, and he has also been stereotyped for the same since a long time. If it comes to his speeches, fans would unanimously agree that none can match the spirit and passion of the one delivered in the Amazing Spider-Man #537.

This speech was not about the corrupt government or the bias or upholding of the law, rather it was about one’s belief of righteousness. Though, Captain features in very few panels in this particular comic, he takes the entire stage to himself with his speech.

He says, “Doesn’t matter what the press says. Doesn’t matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn’t matter if the whole country decides that something is wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth and tell the whole world – ‘no, YOU move’”.

Captain America Directs the Attack (April 2003)

This particular chapter from the Avengers/JLA #4 was a moment of pride and joy for all the die-hard Captain America fans. The comic had already gained traction because of the unprecedented crossover of superheroes from Marvel and DC – the Avengers and the Justice League. They came together to fight-off Krona (whom you might also know as Entropy), who wanted to discover the forces behind the creation of universe and destroy it so that things could begin again.

Considering the magnitude of the battle, everyone, especially Superman, reposed their trust in the command of Captain America, considering his experience in modern warfare and tactics. Taking lead of heroes of the stature of Batman and Thor, with his Martian Manhunter’s telekinetic abilities, he led the heroes to victory.
