REVIEW: Planet Giza, ZZZ

Planet Giza jump between harder hip-hop and slinky funk without compromising their uniqueness.

Planet Giza, ZZZ (independent)

Don’t sleep on ZZZ! (See what I did there?) All kidding aside, this highly regarded Montreal trio have offered a concise collection of songs following 2017’s longer but more formative Détour: Zayad City. This one better encapsulates not only what Rami B, Dumix and Tony $tone (on vocals) do best, but also why they very much represent the sound of the city in 2018: Planet Giza jump between harder hip hop and slinky funk without compromising their uniqueness. It’s music that equally suits sweaty afterhours and a big outdoor stage. 8/10 Trial Track: “Motivez”
