Punks and drunks please report to the first annual Turbo Times festival

…and more great gigs in Montreal this week.

facebookAs the leaves start littering the ground, you’d think that we’re done with the festival business, right? Wrong! This week marks the first Turbo Times Festival, happening at Turbo Haüs (natch), not to mention the Phenomena festival, which takes over Sala, Casa and la Vitrola, is only getting into full swing mode.

Friday: For some minimal synth and dark goth, head down to Brasserie Beaubien to catch Brusque Twins with Taiwan’s Colour Domes and Christopher Franklin. 73 Beaubien E., 8 p.m., $7/PWYC

My fifth wave ska band USA Out of Vietnam is playing the second night of Turbo Haüs with the heavy company of Sergeant House duo Indian Handcrafts, heavy psych dudes Biblical and Oktoplut. 5011 Notre-Dame W., 9 p.m., $15/$20

Analogue Addiction and Blue Skies Turn Black have joined forces for a real humdinger at Casa with Nots, the World and Cheap Wig. 4873 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $10/$13

Not too far away from Casa you can also try your luck at la Vitrola for the Cymbals Eat Guitars show with Field Mouse and the band with my new favourite name, Wild Honey. 4873 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $12/$15

Saturday: For those of you who like their rock and roll greasy and leaving tire tracks you can go to Quai des Brumes to catch Ignition Riot with Final Baton, Carapace and A.F.RE. 4481 St-Denis, 9 p.m., $10/PWYC

The Turbo Times Fest wraps at Turbo Haüs with Greys, Heathers and Silver Dapple. 5011 Notre-Dame W., 9 p.m., $10/$13

Sunday: Brasserie Beaubien is the place to be on the Sabbath to catch Nancy Pants, Jay Arner and more. 73 Beaubien E., 9 p.m., price unlisted

Tuesday: If you haven’t seen it yet, check out the 2006 movie Scott Walker: 30th Century Man, being copresented by the RIDM documentary fest at le Ritz. This one-time pop star let his trademark croon soar in the 1960s but it’s his more recent mastering of experimental music and his avoidance of pop trappings that makes this reclusive cult hero such an inspiration and a perfect documentary subject. See ya there! 179 Jean-Talon W., 8 p.m., $5 suggested donation
