Fuck Frosh, get your ears sheared at these shows this week

If you’re a resident of the Plateau, you’ve probably been cursing the Gods of peace this week as the incoming first year students have been travelling in flotillas down the Main and probably driving you absolutely batty. God forbid you actually live in the McGill Ghetto.

Luckily there is plenty of solace to be in had in the form of rad shows at venues that aren’t located on St-Laurent from Sherbrooke to Mount Royal — granted, Barfly is in that zone, but no lily-livered teenage book learner would dare set a foot there.

Thursday: You can check out the current line-up of incredibly prolific and ever growing Un Blonde and try and predict what musical moment they are currently at with Whitney K and Watering at la Vitrola. 4602 St-Laurent, 10 p.m., $8/$10

Friday: You can catch ex-Besnard Laker and ex Pitbull mosher Richard White’s new shoegaze psych outfit Traces with the peg’s 1971, Becyk Fantome and Ottawa punkers the Valveenus at Atomic Café. 3606 Ontario E., 8 p.m., $8

A great night of punk rawk can be had at Casa with Chain of Flowers, Grosser, the debut of Butcher Baby (nice Plasmatics grab) and Palissade. 4873 St-Laurent, 9:30 p.m., $7/$10

If you dare to go toe to toe with the bright-eyed and bushy-tailed first-year students on the Main, you can seek shelter at the good ol’ Barfly to catch ex-Rational Youth and Pest 5,000 stud muffin Kevin Komoda’s solid jammer Plunt with Tractor Beam. 4062 St-Laurent, 10 p.m., price unlisted

Saturday: The big punk gig of the week is the return of true legends of punk the U.K. Subs at Katacombes with legendary Canadian punkers Armed and Hammered, the Horny Bitches, the Bombs and l’État C’est Moi. 1635 St-Laurent, 8 p.m., $16.73

For some punk rock spirit with more of a synth vibe you can catch Police des Moeurs, Radio Void and Oubliette at Casa. (It’s a benefit for Taking What We Need.) 4873 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $5

Sunday: Road Runner will lay their rock guns down for good after this weekend’s show at O Patro Vys, where they’ll pay tribute to their brother in arms Alexandre Tawistawis Binette. 356 Mont-Royal E., 8:30 p.m., price unlisted

Analogue Addiction is hosting a benefit night for a canine friend who is needing some money to deal with medical issues. They are hoping to get $2,000, so dig deep while you frug out to Paul Jacobs, Taylor Hoodlum Stevenson and Coco Terreur at l’Esco. 4467 St-Denis, 9 p.m., $8

Monday: Buried in the heart of Mile Ex is the little club that can — Drones — which will play host to Seattle’s Iji with Freelove Fenner and Skin Tone. Secret location, 9 p.m., price unlisted

Wednesday: Babysitters will make a bundle on Wednesday night when Band of Skulls shear some ears with Mothers at Theatre Corona. 2490 Notre-Dame W., 8 p.m., $26/$29

U.K. Subs is indeed a big one on Saturday, but the big pick of the week is the return of Japan’s most rocking trio Guitar Wolf who will slick it back with a switchblade comb at Petit Campus, with Hans Condor.  57 Prince-Arthur E., 8:30 p.m., $17.50/$20
