Nightwish

Otakuthon continues! Come back to cultmontreal.com on Monday for our cosplay photo gallery.

It’s day one of Heavy Montreal! Among the highlights of this two-day metal and punk fest at Parc Jean-Drapeau are locals USA Out of Vietnam (feat. our own Johnson Cummins), Atlanta’s Mastodon and Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish. See our guide to the best bands in this year’s line-up here. Tonight’s afterparties include an Extensive Enterprises event at Katacombes and (get this) Skid Row’s Sebastian Bach (who you may have seen on Trailer Park Boys recently) DJing at the casino! 1–10:30 p.m., weekend pass $149.50/$275 Gold pass, single-day ticket $82.50/$150 Gold pass

It’s day two of Evenko’s EDM festival Île Soniq, and with brostep buddy Skrillex headlining, and acts like main-stage Ontario boys DVBBS, Montreal-based Vancouver producer Pomo and famous Montreal native Tiga (Tiga!) in the mix, this is bound to be an even bigger day than yesterday (and yesterday was pretty big). Check out details of the official Île Soniq afterparties feat. British DJ/producer Hannah Wants at le Fairmount (here), and feat. Pomo, Charles Cozy and DJ NAV at Newspeak (here). 1 p.m.–10:30 p.m., single-day tickets $95/Gold Pass $150

In collaboration with MEG, the First Peoples festival Présence Autochtone brings the Electrochoc party to Place des Festivals, with DJs XS7 and Khalil M. Jeanne-Mance between Ste-Catherine and Président-Kennedy, 8:30 p.m., free

The 11th edition of Gay Goth Nite is going down at le Ritz, in collaboration with Slut Island, with performances by Danish act Prison and Toronto’s Nyssa, plus DJs Exghoulfriend and Shamama bringing the dance party. 179 Jean-Talon W., 11 p.m., $5/$10 after midnight/no one turned away
