Melting Pot

A Melting Pot Block Party

Today marks the 11th annual Serve Volleyball Tournament, hosted by Head & Hands as a super fun fundraiser for their sex-ed program, the Sense Project. Cheer on volleyball teams from your fave participating bars and restos, including Grumpy’s, Bifteck and Ye Olde Orchard, at Parc Jeanne-Mance, and enjoy lots of on-site activities like games, performances, trivia, BBQ/beer tents and more, all for a good cause! Parc Jeanne-Mance volleyball courts (west side of Parc just south of Mont-Royal), 10 a.m.–6 p.m., free. Make a donation here.

Mile End market, show-space and family activity zone Marché des Possibles stretches into Sunday mode with morning yoga (a class for adults and a class for kids) and Swedish fitness (whatever that may be) followed by an afternoon and early evening of live music featuring sets by singer-songwriter Maude Audet, synth-pop trio Paupière, indie folkie Ariane Zita and neo-cumbia artist Ramon Chicharron. See more details, including the list of on-site artisans, food trucks and other vendors, here. Outside 5635 St-Dominique, 11 a.m.7 p.m., free

The Film noir au canal gang screens Alfred Hitchcock’s 1959 classic North By Northwest, starring Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint and James Mason. St-Patrick & Wellington, 8:30 p.m., free

Incendies, director Denis Villeneuve’s 2010 melodrama that follows a family’s journey from the Middle East to Montreal, is being screened at Bar le Ritz PDB. If you’re not familiar with this film, it has trigger warning written all over it, ie. bring a hanky and some booze money. 179 Jean-Talon W., 9 p.m., $2$5 suggested donation/no one turned away

The Just for Laughs festival in conjunction with nightlife promoters Darkroom present another banger in their series of Melting Pot Block Party events, Chambre Sombre edition. Expect music by DJs Andrei B, Gino G, Mike Larry, Mike Laz and Nicola Torriero, plus a special performance from Twisted Act Entertainment. Esplanade of Place des Arts (175 Ste-Catherine W.), 10 p.m., free
