8 Montreal shows to get wrecked at this week

Some very heavy hitters are coming to town over the week to come, beginning tonight!

facebookThere are a couple of shows happening this week that are guaranteed to thrill. One of them is happening tonight, but my big pick is coming on Saturday — watch out though, as this band’s utter doom power will leave you feeling battered.

Thursday: The best bet tonight is the return of the always fuggin’ great Ty Segall with his band the Muggers. If his POP Montreal performance in 2014 is any indication, this should be packed to the tits again. Opening at the Rialto is CFM, the always sublime Red Mass and les Marinellis. 5719 Parc, 9 p.m., $25/$27

Concordia radio station CJLO (1690AM) are putting out their metal comp Burned in the Oven and have cooked up a launch at Katacombes featuring an acoustic set from Rusted, the sludgy hardcore of In the Name of Havoc, the death metal of Kruhl and one of the best bands in the city — Metalian — headlining. 1635 St-Laurent, 8:30 p.m., PWYC (any amount over $5 gets you a copy of the compilation)

If you were planning on catching Mr. Airplane, Minotaur’s Oath and Grave Route at Quai des Brumes, you are fucked without a kiss as the show is cancelled due to the guitarist from Mr. Airplane contracting pneumonia. A make-up gig is promised for the future.

Friday: For a night of full-fledged punk fucking rock, catch Boulimik Foodfight with Robert Fusil et les Chiens Fou and les Pics A Flure at Katacombes. 1635 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., $6

For a night of high-octane rawk you can catch Mardi Noir, Teen Seizure and the Count Ferrara at l’Esco as part of their 16th anniversary celebrations. Happy Birthday l’Esco!!! 4467 St-Denis, 9:30 p.m., $5

Saturday: Ty Segall should be a barnburner but my big pick of the week goes to the brutal, sludgy doom wallop of Bell Witch with yet another appearance from the heavy and experimental soundscapes of Wrekmeister Harmonies and Welwitsch opening at Turbo Haus. This is going to rule hard!!!! 5011 Notre-Dame W., 9 p.m., $10/$13

Le Ritz keeps things popping with Sacred Bones recording artists and purveyors of electronic fuckery and sampled maelstrom Blanck Mass (feat. members of Fuck Buttons), the synth punk of Motorkiller and Ceramic TL (aka Egyptrixx). 179 Jean-Talon W., 9:30 p.m., $15/$18

Tuesday: Rockette’s weekly Deadly Mardi DIY series, as curated by the fine and furry Joey Napoleon of UUBBUURRUU, continues with Nobro who really seem to have their gig back on. 4479 St-Denis, 10 p.m., $5/PWYC

Wednesday: If you aren’t gripping tix for Beach House with Moss of Aura at the Rialto, then you won’t be getting through the doors, as the show has been long sold out. 5723 Parc, p.m., SOLD OUT
