Montreal’s Mardi Gras celebrations are getting underway, and tonight Ontario Street bar Cheval Blanc is hosting a party with as much Louisiana spirit as they can muster. There will be a brass band parading on Ontario (possibly in the snow) at 7 p.m., and into the bar at 8 p.m., free chili in the “cantina” at 5 p.m., one free pint to anyone who shows up in costume (from 5à7) and music by DJ Pédale as of 10 p.m. 809 Ontario E., 5 p.m., free entry

If soul food, Caribbean delights and a big helping of R&B, soul, funk, hip hop and house music by DJ Sagewondah sound like a good combo, check out En Cachette’s Tuesday Soul night. See menu details here. 1765 St-Denis, 6 p.m., kitchen open from 511 p.m.

Two art spaces in the same complex are celebrating anniversaries with special events tonight: Artexte turns 35 and marks the occasion with a party — expect music, wine, snacks and door prizes — and a vernissage for their anniversary exhibition, Open Archives: The Places of Artexte; and Vox Populi turns 30 with a new exhibition, Vox Populi: 1985-1989 From Social Militancy to Photography Exhibition, opening with a vernissage tonight and running through April 2. 2 Ste-Catherine E. (Artexte #301, Vox Populi #401 ), 5:30 p.m., free

As part of the Temps d’Images festival (and inspired by its venue, SAT’s Satosphere) French/Japanese Nonotak created Versus, “an immersive AV experience that questions the relationship between 360° image and sound” and “gives the illusion of a new type of architecture, a world created from distorsions that shatter boundaries, and that brings the idea of infinity.” Trippy. 1201 St-Laurent, 7 p.m., $18

Local pro musicians François Lafontaine, Samuel Joly, Antoine Binette and François Plante play music inspired by a giant of contemporary classical music as Style Steve Reich Electrique Style, performing tonight at Quai des Brumes. 4481 St-Denis, 9 p.m., PWYC

The Village’s Play Nightclub hosts video game night Gaymer Zone, Mario Kart Double Dash edition, with Just Dance and prizes for winners and participants. 1450 Ste-Catherine E., 9 p.m., free
