And you thought festival season was done

Nope, there’s one more music festival, a celebration of heaviosity, starting this weekend. PLUS 6 more shows this week that you need to know about.

facebookNow that the cold and cruel winds are nipping at our heels and everything’s getting covered in a grey veneer, you would think we’re finally done with festivals, right? Think again Dorothy —this town just won’t give up the festival fervour. Happening this weekend and next weekend is a concert series cooked up by the fine furry people at Cuchabsta records and la Passe, called Cuch Fest. A plethora of killer bands of every stripe are playing over the next couple of weekends, so dash down to Friday and Saturday’s section to check out the first weekend line-up.

Thursday: A DJ night flying under the banner of Savage: Metal Breaks Your Senses is happening at Blue Dog, with DJs No Fun, underworld dark lord Taylor Hoodlum Stevenson and Dark Parts. The smart money is on this being an unholy hell of a metal party. Strict dress code of denim, leather and bullet belts are in effect. 3958 St-Laurent, 10 p.m.

Heaviosity finds a home tonight with Drip, Maxpower and God Bless America at Turbohaus. 5011 Notre-Dame W., 9 p.m., $5/PWYC

If that wasn’t enough another night of blistering hardcore and molten metal can be had at la Vitrola with Twitching Tongues, Harm’s Way, Homewrecker, Malice at the Palace and Life Spent. 4602 St-Laurent, 7 p.m., $20

Friday: A band that is making up for lost time is Yardlets, who seem to be playing every weekend after a short hiatus. They’ll be laying it down with Traces, Femme Accident and Fill Spectre at Poisson Noir. Secret location, 10 p.m.

Cuch Fest gets things started at la Passe with Alexein P. Oris, Gens Chretiens and David LaFrance, Medora Auks, David and the Woods, Square/Sine, le Syndicat du Cauchemar Jaune with an open free improv night to cap things off. 1214 Montagne, 8 p.m., $10/PWYC

Saturday: The second night of Cuch Fest keeps things running with a rolling boil featuring RBC, Cappi, :La Foret Rouge, Ghost Vines, Odd Limbs the incredible Crabe and once again sending you into the night with an open call improv jam. 1214 Montagne, 8 p.m., $10/PWYC

For a night of straight-up hardcore and serious psyched-out punk, you can catch Dethfox, Chloroform and Vomit Squad at Turbohaus. 5011 Notre-Dame W., 9:30 p.m., $5/$10/PWYC

Sunday: Once again your Sunday afternoon should be spent digging through the bins at Sound Central while the post-hardcore noise of Offset, the stoner punk of the Hitchhike Rats obliterate your ears. This starts early and yep, they have tons of coffee (and it’s surprisingly an amazing cup o’ Joe btw). 4486 Coloniale, 4:30 p.m., free

Current Obsession: David Bowie, Low
