A handful of new shows are opening in the art scene this week, along with a number of special events to keep you occupied.

Tonight, Wednesday, head to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts to see the current exhibit of sculptures by Rodin, Metamorphoses, and take advantage of their half-price admission on Wednesday evenings with this week’s edition taking the form of a special 5à7, where popcorn and drinks will be available. 1380 Sherbrooke W., Wednesday, July 22, 5–9 p.m., $10
On Thursday, the Phi Centre hosts the Vice Annual Photo Show titled The New Photojournalism, which is co-curated by award-winning Canadian photographer Larry Towell. The exhibit is produced in conjunction with the release of Vice’s annual photo issue and features examples of work by Aaron Vincent Elkaim, Brett Gundlock, Dominic Nahr and Mauricio Palos. Here’s hoping Vice found space for some women photographers inside the actual issue. 407 St-Pierre, Thursday, July 23, 7–10 p.m.

Also Thursday, the Melting Pot zone of Just for Laughs will be the scene of Sideshow, a special 5à7 hosted by atuvu.ca and Pop Up Art featuring visual arts and performances from contortionists, mediums, mermaids and more. Check out artworks by Ma’Liciouz, Abdala Kaufman, Kikooshi, Frédérick Ouellet and many more. Esplanade of Place des Arts, Thursday, 4–9 p.m., free
On Friday, ArtGang Gallery is holding a vernissage of paintings by Montreal-based artist and photographer Alex Coma. The show is being mounted by All in Eyewear, for whom Coma has provided the photography used in their lookbooks and catalogues. Expect to see lush land and skyscapes with an element of the surreal. 6524 St-Hubert, Friday, July 24, 5–9 p.m.

If you’re planning to check out the summertime beach zone near the foot of the Cartier Bridge (Pied du Courant) this weekend, make sure to stop by the mobile art truck Galerie Éphémère, which will be looping High Dwelling, a five-minute-long short film by local new media artist Anne Bertrand. 2178 Notre-Dame E., viewable during Pied du Courant hours from July 24–26
On Saturday check out a vernissage in the Village at La Galerie, showing works by El Ruso and Kikooshi. 1200 Amherst, #102, Saturday, July 25, 5–10 p.m.

Also Saturday, Mile Ex art space CK2 Gallery hosts Perform N˚1, the first of a new performance night series, kicking things off with presentations from visiting Toronto artists, the collective Fake Injury Party and multidisciplinary artist Laura McCoy. 6560 Esplanade, #203, Saturday, July 25, 6–9 p.m.
On Sunday, Montreal street art blog If Walls Could Talk will host two different street art walking tours, one along St-Denis and the other centred on St-Laurent. Sunday, July 26, 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Check links for meeting points. PWYC.
