This week in the arts scene you’ll find a number of artists talks and conferences to check out, plus plenty of vernissages to keep you busy every night of the week.

 

Tonight, Wednesday, check out Laura Madera’s watercolours at Monastiraki, and be sure to check out the special window installation by Mere Phantoms that comes to life after sundown. 5478 St-Laurent, Wednesday, Feb. 4, 5–9 p.m.

 

You can also catch a talk on Wednesday by Turner Prize winner Simon Starling at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal (MAC), whose exhibit Metamorphology is showing until May 10. 185 Ste-Catherine W. Wednesday, Feb. 4, 4 p.m.

 

On Thursday, head to The McClure Gallery (Visual Arts Centre) for the opening of Megalopolis, a collection of glittering nighttime cityscapes by Dennis Ekstedt. 350 Victoria, Thursday, Feb. 5, 6 p.m.

 

If you find yourself in the Old Port on Thursday, stop by to say hello to artist Malcolm Smith, who’s hosting a meet and greet in conjunction with Galerie 203. Smith’s retro style uses Ben-Day dots reminiscent of Roy Lichtenstein. On Saturday, head to Parisian Laundry for artist talks with both Janet Werner and Jordan Weitzman who will discuss their current exhibits in the St-Henri space. 3550 St-Antoine W., Saturday, Feb. 7, 3–5 p.m. ***Note – an earlier version of this article listed this event on Friday. On Saturday, pop over to Galerie Division (in the same complex as Arsenal) to check out the group show You Won’t Believe (…), a take on the climate of edutainment, clickbait and memes from the new generation of young, plugged in artists such as Jon Rafman, Jillian Mayer (whose nude selfie project was part of the Montreal Biennale this past fall) and Chloe Wise. 2020 William, Saturday, Feb. 7, 5–7 p.m.

 

Sunday will be your last chance to check out the Valérie Belin and Richard Mosse exhibits at DHC/ART – and there will be a special creative workshop with sound and visual artist Pohanna Pyne Feinberg, plus a guided tour of the exhibits will be offered. 451 St-Jean, Sunday, Feb. 8, workshops drop in from 1–5 p.m., guided tour at 1:30 p.m.
