September means it’s not only school that’s back in session — your neighbourhood art galleries and artist-run centres have been hard at work developing a new season of programming for your hungry eyes. This is a big week for Arts in Montreal — there are nine different vernissages to choose from on Thursday alone! If you’re new in town, this week will be a great opportunity to familiarize yourself with some of these creative spaces.

Some events that are especially interesting this week include the opening of a brand new location on the Main for Galerie d’Este. The launch of their new space occurs Thursday and will also be the vernissage for a solo show by Andy Curlowe with work exploring our relationship to the land, and the collisions between natural and industrial spaces.

At Galerie Samuel Lallouz, Berlin-based Japanese artist Leiko Ikemura will be on site Thursday to introduce her work in Zarathustra, a Nietzschian visual exploration of the conflict between tradition and innovation, the past and the future.

On Friday, head to Côte-des-Neiges to see a new outdoor exhibition called Art Unhinged, curated by Matthew Stavros, hosted by the Le Château Entropôt near Namur metro. This group show features many of the same artists who contributed to the Secret Street Art Gallery we showed you last week, including TurtleCaps, Futur Lasor Now, Bonar, Mr. Abstrakt, Phillippe Mastrocola, and many more.
