How 500 Montrealers froze their asses off

Nearly 500 cyclists braved cold and windy conditions in the first edition of Velo Sous Zero yesterday. Organized by Vélo Quebec (which also mounts the annual Tour de l’Ile), the 15km event started and finished at Parc Lafontaine.

Cyclists in thick goggles and snowsuits rode through the bike paths of the Plateau, heading east through the streets of the Rosemont-Patrie borough then through the snowy paths of  Parc Maisonneuve. Apart from being a sporting event, Velo Sous Zero aimed to raise awareness of the popularity of winter cycling in Montreal. See my photos here:
