Five bands you need to see this weekend

Get to these gigs and thank me later.

facebookSure, it’s Halloween. But if you can tear yourself away from shimmying around in goofy costumes and sticking your hands into jars of slimy grapes and overcooked spaghetti, get yourself to these shows. And thank me later.

Thursday: For a night of ooey-gooey shoegaze and drone, dust off your earplugs for Disappears with Weekend and local drone nerds Aim Low at Il Motore. 179 Jean-Talon W., 9 p.m., $15

Saturday: Local instru-metalists Squalor join forces with epic post rockers Near Grey at l’Hemisphère Gauche. 221 Beaubien E., 9 p.m., $8

For something a bit more messy, you can catch ex-Sic Alps’ Mike Donovan with U.S. Girls and the Pink Noise at Il Motore. 179 Jean-Talon W., 9 p.m., $10

Sunday: King Khan and the Shrines bring the swagger back home with Hellshovel and Vomit Squad at la Tulipe. 4530 Papineau, 8 p.m., $18/$20, all ages

Tuesday: Finally, one of the best bands to emerge out of our city, Yamantaka // Sonic Titan, fuck up yer puny mind at Cabaret du Mile End. 5240 Parc, 9 p.m., $12/$15
