Tuesday night live

Tonight, the Pirates of the Lachine Canal present a real “wierd punk” triple threat. Local mostly-female quartet Hand Cream have been known to play some pretty hard and fast punk rock, with goth-y guitar lines reminiscent of early Cramps and Dead Kennedys. Then there’s The Nymphets, a duo based in both Brooklyn and Montreal and inspired by the more melodic side of early British punk.

Check out “Fingercult” and their cool cover of “Program” by vintage U.S. psychedelic band Silver Apples. You can’t hear the vocals for shit in this video, but here they are live. They’re former members of Play Guitar, the Shambles, Drunk Dial, Gilbert Switzer, the Hold, R.O.T. and more.

Then there’s The Nymphets, a duo based in both Brooklyn and Montreal and inspired by the more melodic side of early British punk. Here’s a track to sample.

Headlining is Lantern, a Philadelphia band that recently paid tribute to “‘80s dystopic cyber punk” on their Dream Mine EP, which essentially sounds like the Stooges. But they also have softer, bluesier, analog sides — yeah, they love the cassettes. Here’s a track from one of them, Burned Youth — it’s called “Bop-a-Bop-a-Bop I’m Yr Porkchop.” Have you ever heard a more distorted Bo Diddley beat?

See them tonight at the SLVRDOOR, 9 p.m., $6
