On May 26th 1969, right here in Montreal (Tiohtià:ke, the unceded territory of the Kanien’kehá:ka) Yoko Ono and John Lennon levereged the media mania surrounding their celebrity marriage to promote world peace. Speaking to journalists from a bed at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel, their message was broadcast to television screens and plastered on the front pages of newspapers around the world. The Bed-In lasted seven days, and it was here where the iconic protest song « Give Peace A Chance » was first performed.

The slogan « War Is Over ! If You Want It » was born in the very same hotel room. The statement is simple; if enough of us come together, we can move politicians and the industries that lobby them to end war. And yet 56 years later, it would seem we just don’t want it.

So why not ?
