Run Woman Run

Run Woman Run

Thursday, Jul 28 , 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Mohawk writer/director Zoe Leigh Hopkins crafts a charming romantic comedy in Run Woman Run. In a welcome twist, the main romantic arc of the film entails learning to love yourself. Buoyed by an incredible performance by Dakota Ray Hebert, the film follows a Mohawk woman, Beck, who is grieving her mother’s death while caring for her young son. Beck spends most of her days in a pizza-patterned housecoat and drives the short distance to her mailbox for ‘exercise.’ Her family’s concerns about her health are driven home when she briefly falls into a diabetic coma. The road to recovery has Beck struggling (and sometimes failing) to train for a marathon she creates for herself. The film is a heart-warming mix of comedy, drama and magic realism from an up-and-coming director.
