THE SHOW THAT WILL PUT AN END TO THE TRANS DEBATE… FOR BETTER OR WORSE

Admiring Librarians is the Fringe debut of comedian Raquel Maestre (A Very Pretentious Comedy Show), a very personal 45 minutes of witty and touching stand-up that will be enjoyed by fans of intelligent comedy, regardless of how much of a trans lesbian they are.

Uprootedness, shame, guilt, denial, discourse, dissociation…
Maestre manages to make all of this funny, in a brutally honest, irreverent examination of her experience, desires, and identity growing up in the closet, and later on as a trans lesbian immigrant who became herself far away from home.

Admiring Librarians might be the one-woman show that will answer the trans question. It is yet to be seen if anyone will be happy with the answer.

Raquel Maestre is originally from Murcia, Spain. Even with such setbacks, she has made a place for herself in Montreal comedy with her deadpan commentary on life as a transgender immigrant and the hilariousness of these times of impending doom.
She has been featured on Zoofest-OFFJFL, Gigglefest, Ladyfest Montreal, Winterlewd, and Pervers/Cité festivals. She has performed in four languages in both Canada and Spain, and she has created some of the staple shows in the Montreal queer and independent comedy scene, A Very Pretentious Comedy Show and The Poly Mic. This summer, she will also perform at Montreal Sketchfest, Minifest, and Cruïlla Barcelona.
