Plain Clothes Clown Intensive with Kevin Gregory Krieger

Plain Clothes Clown Intensive with Kevin Gregory Krieger

Saturday, May 24 10:30 a.m. to Sunday, May 25 4:30 p.m.

In this two-day intensive, we will dive deep into the core principles of clowning, using a blend of improvisational exercises to explore and hone them in real time.  With live direction and guidance, performers will be pushed to expand their vocal and physical range, sharpen their comedic timing, and strengthen their connection with the audience.

These exercises will be intentionally abstract, designed to spark risk-taking, embrace failure, and uncover accidental moments of genuine (and often hilarious) truth.

The goal is for each performer to discover and amplify their own unique voice, stepping away from traditional clown personas and embracing vulnerability.

This is not a class for complete beginners to performance, but it is a perfect entry point for those new to clowning.

It’s also ideal for seasoned clowns and performers seeking to deepen their craft, gain insight into contemporary clowning techniques, and explore how clowning can integrate with other performance disciplines.

Kevin Gregory Krieger is a comedian and director based in Los Angeles, CA.
Combining clown, standup, sketch and improvisation, his live performances have taken him to stages across the region, including Pasadena’s Civic Center Auditorium where he was featured on NBC’s America’s Got Talent.

Under the tutelage and direction of John Gilkey (Cirque Du Soleil), Kevin performed in the critically-acclaimed improvisational clown ensemble The Murge, which LA Weekly dubbed, “Spontaneous theater of the absurd…LA’s craziest improv show.”

Kevin would go on to train in the Idiot Workshop pedagogy and teach for the workshop for nearly a decade. In 2023, Kevin directed Claire Woolner’s solo show A Retrospection which was called “captivating throughout” by The New York Times and went on to win Best of Hollywood Fringe.
Kevin currently teaches clown from his very own theater (Public Displays of Altadena @pda_space) where you can catch him performing his solo show: An Honest Work. You can watch his shows on twitch.tv/pda_space or tune in for the highlights @kevingregorykrieger on instagram.
