About Summer Night (1986):

GOWNS BY VALENTINO, CHAINS BY BULGARI

Summer Night (Italian: Notte d’estate con profilo greco, occhi a mandorla e odore di basilico, also known as Summer Night with Greek Profile, Almond Eyes and Scent of Basil) is a sexy and sharp comedy written and directed by Lina Wertmüller (the first female director to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Director). It stars a Valentino-clad Mariangela Melato (frequent collaborator and muse of Lina) as a snobby aristocrat who holds an infamous terrorist-kidnapper hostage for ransom in her remote palace in Sardinia.

In 1987, the film was dubbed by The New York Times as “chicly boring, though extremely well dressed”

Think: sexual politics, class war, glamour, Valentino gowns and Bulgari chains, a fabulous villa on the coast of Sardinia and yachts, sexual games, etc.
