CCA launches the Domestic Monument: Amancio Williams exhibition on Feb. 22

Thursday, Feb 22 , 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Join us for the curators’ talk and panel discussion for the opening of Domestic Monument, the third installment of the 2023–2024 Out of the Box exhibition series, dedicated to the works of Amancio Williams (1913‒1989), one of the key figures of modern architecture in Latin America. The curators of this exhibition, Mauricio Pezo and Sofia von Ellrichshausen of Pezo von Ellrichshausen, will present their research and reflections on the idea of domestic monumentality in Williams’s work through two key projects—Casa Sobre el Arroyo [House over the brook] and Casa Demarás [Desmarás house]—at 5:30pm.

After their presentation and to mark the final chapter of the series, they will be joined on stage by the curators of the two previous exhibitions for a panel discussion. Mauricio Pezo and Sofia von Ellrichshausen, the architects Gilles Delalex and Yves Moreau of Studio Muoto (Paris), the historian Claudia Shmidt (Buenos Aires), and Claudio Williams (Buenos Aires), son of Amancio Williams, will share their different readings and perspectives on Amancio Williams’s work and archives.

The gallery will open at 5pm and the event will conclude with a celebration in the Shaughnessy House, from 7:30pm to 9pm.

Donated to the CCA by the Williams family in 2020, the archive includes the vast output of projects and proposals produced by Amancio Williams’s office over several decades from the 1940s through 1980s through drawings, photographs, correspondence, and models.
