ABOUT THE ARTIST

Katherine Takpannie, currently based in Ottawa, ON, is an urban Inuk artist and writer whose family is originally from Nunavut and continues to hold strong ties to its land and community. Working primarily with photography, Takpannie captures performative and political gestures against natural and built environments. She honours the Inuit worldview through her lens, asserting a vision firmly grounded in social accountability and unity and using the medium to reclaim her identity and explore her lived experiences. Her photographs have been exhibited nationally.

ABOUT LOOKING TO THE FUTURE EXHIBITION

Curator: Adrian Stimson

The exhibition looks to the future by recognizing the value of Indigenous knowledge systems as a path to an ecologically balanced future. Inuktitut and Inuit stories of the land teach us about our relationship with it and how it should be treated. Katherine Takpannie seeks to expose her Inuit worldview and tell stories of her people and the land through beautiful landscapes of the North, cultural stories, emotional connections, portraits, and experiences. The exhibition will be presented at the Age of Union Centre until March 16, 2024.
