Measures Taken by Megacities to Combat Pollution

Global warming is happening, and many cities are taking charge in fighting it.

Megacities are major contributors to pollution. They are home to a lot of cars, and their buildings use backup power supplies, which burn gasoline from generators.

Megacities are thriving with activity — from bitcoin mining to unsustainable urban development and online services that use servers, all these activities lead to an increase in the levels of pollution. However, some big cities have plans that will help reduce the problem. Companies like Vulkan Vegas online casino are also reducing their carbon footprint by nursing renewable energy to run their servers and computers.

Madrid Is Planning to Build an Urban Forest

Madrid recently unveiled a plan to build a forest inside the city. This forest is going to help combat pollution and fight climate change.

The plan is to convert unused buildings into parks and then plant half a million trees. The projection is that this project will convert many areas into a 75-kilometre-long urban forest.

This urban forest is expected to absorb 175,000 tons of carbon dioxide each year. Experts also say that this is going to improve the air quality in the city.

Tijuca National Park in Rio de Janeiro

Tijuca Park is an urban national park. It is located up in the mountains of Rio de Janeiro. It is a part of what is called the Atlantic Forest Biosphere Reserve.

The Tijuca Park covers 8,300 acres of land. It is a green rainforest, and it has various kinds of terrains, waterfalls and many plants. The estimate is that there are 1,600 plant species here and more than 350 species of animals.

Every year, 3 million people visit the park and marvel at its beauty. The Tijuca park also offers an extensive array of activities, with the forest sector offering hiking trails and picnic areas.

The Atlanta BeltLine

This project will cover 22 miles of trails and greenspace. The BeltLine is a transportation project that will offer a solution to mobility and recreation, providing transportation options to more than 5.5 million people in Metro Atlanta.

About 400 million dollars of public investment were poured into it, and it yielded one billion dollars in private investment.

This project has been around for many years. Its primary function is to provide transportation, recreation, jobs and ultimately create an urban area that is sustainable.

Guangzhou Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)

In China, the BRT is a project that focuses on mobility and economic redevelopment. Guangzhou is a new megacity that has a population of 10 million people. Because of its unprecedented growth, the city has a spike in traffic and smog.

Because of this, the city is building a transit system that will help reduce the city’s carbon footprint. The projected fare for the BRT is only thirty US cents.

The entire BRT system will run 850,000 trips daily. It is also a project that will take precedence in the use of zero-carbon mobility systems like bicycles and pedestrian thoroughfares.

Helsinki “Katsuplus” Mobility on Demand

This project is focused on both mobility and telecommunications. The government officials understand that in 10 years, motorized services will change drastically. They want mobility to be a shared riding experience.

The end goal is to cut the carbon emissions in the city. Essentially, this project is saying goodbye to cars. The plan is to make the city more centric on biking and the use of transit.

The Katsuplus is a minibus public transportation system. People can get rides from their phones. It is already up and running, and passengers can summon the buses to actually stop. It chooses the most direct route, and passengers can opt to share their rides with others.

The fare is higher than traditional buses. However, they are lower than taxis. The benefit here is that a passenger no longer has to transfer to other buses to get to their destination.

Summary

Global warming is here, and it is happening. There are many cities that are taking charge in fighting it, along with people like Elon Musk, who are advancing the use of renewable energy for cars.

Humanity must be in this fight together. Big companies, especially those in the bitcoin mining and manufacturing industries, must take the lead.
