Quebecers Quebec rapid tests pandemic critical

Quebecers more critical of government’s distribution of rapid tests, pandemic handling overall

“Quebec endured some of the strictest public health restrictions in the country.”

A new poll by the Angus Reid Institute found that François Legault’s approval rating has decreased to 55%, a new personal low. Quebecers overall have been more critical of the Quebec government’s handling of the pandemic, especially regarding the distribution of rapid antigen tests.

According to the survey, 59% of Quebecers approve of Legault’s handling of the pandemic, 16 points lower compared to the summer.

“Quebec endured some of the strictest public health restrictions in the country: a curfew, to be lifted today, which barred Quebecers from leaving their home after 10 p.m. starting New Year’s Eve. Bars, gyms and indoor dining were also closed as cases skyrocketed over the holidays.”

While a strong majority of Quebecers approve of the government’s vaccination efforts (80%), many are more critical of the allocation and distribution of rapid antigen tests across Quebec.

“Residents are more dissatisfied with the distribution of rapid tests, as they faced long queues to snag the initial handout of testing kits over the holidays. Two-in-five (37%) say the provincial government has done well to allocate the rapid tests, more (57%) give the province a thumbs-down.”
