It costs an average of $50K to care for a COVID-19 patient in intensive care in Canada

Roughly $42K more than the cost of a patient with pneumonia, and $43K more than a patient with heart problems.

According to data from the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), a COVID-19 patient in intensive care has an average cost of $50K in Canada, depending on the duration of the stay. This is roughly $42K more than the cost of a patient with pneumonia, and $43K more than a patient with heart problems.

Premier François Legault shared a post by FM93’s Jerome Landry last night with a graphic including the healthcare costs. This follows the announcement earlier in the day that unvaccinated adults in Quebec without a valid medical exemption will be fined.

In Quebec, someone who is unvaccinated is currently 13.8 times more likely to require intensive care than those who are double-vaccinated.
