Before downtown art and graphic design bookshop Formats closes its doors, you can peruse their collection of unique and hard to find books at a four-day, 40 per cent off liquidation sale, which begins today. 2 Ste-Catherine E., #302, 12–5 p.m., free entry, continues through Saturday

Youth employment initiative YES Montreal hosts the first of their two-part Making Art Work workshop with YES artist program coordinator Marie-Michèle Fillion. This evening discussion is entitled Nuts and Bolts, while next Wednesday’s event closes the series with Making It Happen. Note that pre-registration is mandatory. 666 Sherbrooke W. 7th floor, 6:30-8:30 p.m., $35

Put on your glammiest outfit and head to the Museum of Fine Arts for tonight’s 80s New York City Night, a special 5à9 in conjunction with the ongoing Robert Mapplethorpe photography retrospective Focus: Perfection and see the exhibit for half-price. Alexander Ortiz (We Are Wolves) will be manning the DJ booth, there will be free drinks for those in ’80s garb and polaroid cameras on hand to immortalize your look. 1380 Sherbrooke W., 5–9 p.m., $10

Arts and Laughs is mostly a comedy show, but it’s also an excuse to get creative — competitively, for free drinks. Comics Jacob Greco, Iain MacNeil, D.J. Mausner, Drew Picklyk and Maica Armata (yes, the musician!) are participating in tonight’s Brunch Club event, which is taking place at St-Henri music venues Turbo Haus. The theme: suspense. 5011 Notre-Dame W., 7–10 p.m., $5

Check out a special Halloween edition of live art showdown Beaux Dégâts, where six teams of artists including Monosourcil, Wzrdgng and Regimental Oneton will go head to head to create original eight-foot murals to be judged by the audience, who can vote for their favourite team using empty PBR cans. Expect music from Branche Collective DJs Stram and ADVSS, plus a special performance by host Ella Grave. Foufounes Électriques (87 Ste-Catherine E.), 8 p.m., $5

Local psychedelic pop-funk band Wizaard launch their new album Starfish Buffet — following up their 2014 EP Filty Haanz at long last — with a show at Divan Orange, accompanied by opener Landisles. 4234 St-Laurent, 9:30 p.m., $7
