Regimental

A tribute to Walter White by Regimental OneTon at Under Pressure 2014

Rain or shine, the 21st annual Under Pressure international graffiti convention is on this weekend, with live painting, dance battles, MCs, DJs, parkour and skateboarding all day today and tomorrow on the stretch of Ste-Catherine between Berger and Ste-Elisabeth. At night there’s a drum & bass showcase at Fresh Paint Gallery tonight, and following tradition, the closing party is on at Foufounes on Sunday night.

Spend the day on the pedestrian zone of Ste-Catherine Street during today’s Pride Community Day, where LGBT-run businesses, community organizations, sports teams and other groups share knowledge and fun with the public in a festive atmosphere. Ste-Catherine E. from St-Hubert to Papineau, 11 a.m.–5 p.m, free

While you’re in the neighbourhood, don’t miss the Queer Between the Covers Bookfair, organized by Pride’s more radical counterpart, Pervers Cité. 1700 Amherst, 11 a.m.–6 p.m., free

Head to the Old Port’s Quai Jacques Cartier for the sixth edition of the Orientalys Festival, with a weekend-long program celebrating pan-Asian cultures from North Africa to China with live music, exhibitions, workshops, food and more. Quai Jacques-Cartier, 1–11 p.m., free

This weekend, St-Michel’s circus school TOHU hosts Falla, the annual festival of fire, featuring circus performances, live music from AfrikElektro, Papagroove and more, plus the main evening: lighting a giant, 35-foot sculpture on fire complete with a unique pyrotechnics show. (No jokes about the 40, please. Too soon.) 2345 Jarry E., 3–11 p.m., free

Oakland rockers Happy Diving take over Poisson Noir with support from Montreal’s Heathers and Holding Hands plus New Jersey’s Fond Han. Secret location, 9 p.m., $7/PWYC, all ages

Day two of the Montreal edition of travelling East Coast-based music fest Shifty Bits Circus teams up with local band collective Oh Hi for tonight’s show, a stacked line-up including Alex Calder, Walrus (Halifax), Motherhood (Fredericton), Moss Lime, Tamara Sandor, LAPS (Fredericton), Slight, Gianna Lauren (Halifax), Janowski and DJ Radiant Baby. 6545 Durocher, 9 p.m., $15 or free with festival pass
