After a few weeks of “soft opening,” new Little Italy dive la Taverne Cobra throws an official launch party tonight to break in the bar, with its retro-kitsch decor including a handful of arcade games and pinball, a drink menu that includes Homer J.’s fave Duff Beer and a real Flaming Moe, plus a special performance by “power drummer” Joey Muha. 6584 St-Laurent, 9 p.m., free

New Mile End showbar Mademoiselle hosts a Tarantino Burlesque night, with music from Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill and Deathproof played live by the Mighty Swells as performers Sugar Vixen, Mikki Michelle and Black Mamba do their thing. The event also promises a twist contest and extra entertainment from Dr. Pleasure. 5171 Parc, 9:30 p.m., $8 with a costume/$10 in advance/$12 at the door

It’s David Bowie Nite at le Ritz, a dance party in honour of one of the best singers/songwriters of all time. Along with Bowie’s own songs, DJ Awwful will play music by the proto-punk and krautrock artists that inspired him, his glam rock and synth pop contemporaries and some of the many many bands that he influenced over the years. Participants are encouraged to dress up or make-up à la Bowie, or otherwise “freak it up.” 179 Jean-Talon W., 10 p.m., $5/PWYC
