Now that we finally seem to be entering a spring-like phase, Montreal is buzzing with activity as we shake off the long winter. If you’re looking for some things to do tonight and into the weekend, check out some of what the arts scene has in store. There’s a lot going on, so let’s get straight to it!

 

Tonight, Thursday, check out a 5 à 9 at the McCord Museum and get the first look at the brand-new exhibit, Camp Fires: The Queer Baroque of Léopold L. Foulem, Paul Mathieu and Richard Milette. Take note, the Love in Fine Fashion exhibit of 200 years of wedding dresses is closing in a few days, so don’t miss this chance to see it! 690 Sherbrooke W., Thursday, April 9, 5–9 p.m. $11 in advance, $15 at the door.

 

If you’re on the east end, a site-specific long-term collection of works and installations will be launched Thursday. Organized by Time Equities Art-In-Buildings, the show includes Montreal artists Dominique Petrin, Labrona, Chloe Lum and more. 2030 Pie-X, Thursday, April 9, 4–6 p.m.

 

A very full Thursday dance card also includes a Mile End double vernissage at Galerie Youn with Sarah Nind and Martin Ouellette (5226 St-Laurent, Thursday, April 9, 6–8 p.m.) and a St-Henri opening at Rack Galerie of Flecken by Patrice Cantin (3714 Notre-Dame W., Thursday, April 9, 5–8 p.m.)

 

On Friday you’ll find me among the admirers of the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal (MAC)’s Sophie Calle and Simon Starling exhibits at their April Nocturne. If you’ve never been to one of these soirées, it’s a great chance to see the exhibits, cocktail in hand, with guided tours every half hour and DJs on deck. 185 Ste-Catherine W., 5 p.m.–2 a.m., $14/$10 students or free for MACarte holders.

 

Also Friday, take this opportunity to check out the brand-new St-Henri space, Galerie Patrick Mikhail, which has opened a Montreal gallery to complement their established Ottawa location. Friday’s vernissage is for the show Dire Oui (Say Yes) by painter Jennifer Lefort (who’s next stop is this summer’s Art Basel fair in Basel, Switzerland). Continuing in the gallery is an exhibition of photographs by Andrew Wright. 4445 St-Antoine W., Friday, April 10, 5:30–9 p.m

 

If you’re near the Belgo Friday, make sure to stop by Arprim for the vernissage of La création de l’univers by Emmanuelle Jacques, for which the artist has created 1,250 prints by combining 25 linocut patterns in different ways, out of 15,000 potential combinations. 372 Ste-Catherine W., #426, Friday, April 10, 5:30 p.m.

 

Saturday’s another full day with five different shows opening, including two in the Belgo. 2015 Concordia grads Elise Lafontaine and Jonathan Théroux will show new works at Galerie LUZ (#418) along with paintings by Daisy Tsai in gallery II. At Galerie Dominique Bouffard (#508), self-described “post-punk plasticien” Sébastien Pesot presents photos and video in his show L’anatomie du Bling. 372 Ste-Catherine W., Saturday, April 11, 2–6 p.m.

 

Or, if you’re in the sudwest Saturday, don’t miss the new group show Monsters at Galerie ABYSS with 40 artists including Steven Spazuk, Iambatman, and Pascal Leo Cormier. 1520 Notre-Dame W., Saturday, April 11, 7–10 p.m.

 

On Sunday, take it easy with a cup of tea at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, where Moroccan tea and pastries will be offered to visitors to the Marvels and Mirages of Orientalism exhibition. 1380 Sherbrooke W., Sunday, April 12, 10 a.m.–5 p.m., $20/$12 under 30
