If the sudden temperature drop is making it hard to get yourself out the door this week, the slate of events in the arts scene might give you just the motivation you need to lace up those boots. Check out this week’s exhibitions, parties, performances and book launches.

 

Today, Tuesday, you can head to St-Henri to check out Art XXI, an exhibition of contemporary pop art, before the bidding begins for the pieces at tonight’s auction at Iegor Auction House. Highlights include works by Kashink, Omen, 123Klan, Tarek, Jessica Gorlicky and more. 870 du Couvent, Tuesday, Dec 2, exhibition 12–5 p.m., cocktail 6 p.m., auction 7:30 p.m., free entry.

 

On Wednesday, check out new work by Ève Salvail at Mile End’s Espace 40. 160 St-Viateur E.,  #108, Wednesday, Dec. 3, 5 p.m.

 

Thursday offers a first look at a new book cataloguing the work of Quebec Autonomist Jean Paul Riopelle from 1966–1971, with a launch event at Galerie Simon Blais. 5420 St-Laurent  #100, Thursday, Dec. 4, 6 p.m.

 

Also on Thursday, help artist-run centre Articule celebrate its 35th anniversary with a pseudo-formal cocktail party featuring special cucumber-rosemary cocktails, great prizes from local businesses and tunes by DJs Groovy Jack and Mistah. 262 Fairmount W., Thursday, Dec. 4, 6 p.m.–12 a.m.

 

Saturday is a big day with five different vernissages going down. Head to the Belgo in the afternoon to see three new shows, including two with performances involved. At POPOP Gallery (#442), check out Oli Sorensen’s La Societé de la Place des Spectacles, which will involve a smashing performance in which video monitors will be demolished both on-screen and in the flesh. Upstairs at SBC Gallery of Contemporary Art (#507), the Centre de recherche urbaine de Montréal presents 119 m Above Sea Level, an attempt to conjure the lost archives of a 44-year-old conceptual art piece, using texting as a medium for telepathy across time and space. 372 Ste-Catherine W., Saturday, Dec. 6, 2–5 p.m.

 

In the evening on Saturday, head to Dazibao for two opening shows. In the first, Light Adjustments, artist Scott Massey observes the sun and moon using equipment both current and out-of-date, reflecting on how our knowledge is affected by the tools we use to look at things. The second show, Future Perfect, is a collection of short films and videos from the Balkans, curated by Boshko Bosković. 5455 de Gaspé #109, Saturday, Dec. 6, 7 p.m.
