Professional athletes introducing youth to skateboarding
 – An event organized by Vans as part of the Dime Glory Challenge

Vans invite young skateboard enthusiasts and those interested in discovering the sport to a skateboarding intro session on September 17 on the Esplanade of the Olympic Park. As part of the Dime Glory Challenge, an event in which Vans is a partner, internationally renowned athletes will be at the Vans skatepark from 10 am to 12 pm to introduce youth to the sport and coach them.

The activity will be divided in two parts. From 10 am to 11 am, Vans will welcome a group of young people from the JM Court  and Tyndale St-Georges community organizations so that they can discover skateboarding. From 11 am to 12 pm, the event will be open to all. Even youth without their equipment can enjoy the experience since Vans will provide some boards, helmets, and protective gear.

Vans athletes, including local talent Annie Guglia will be on-site to meet the skaters and advise them.

“Throughout my life, skateboarding has been very important. It has allowed me to grow and have some great experiences. It will be a pleasure to introduce these youth to the sport and help them realize that they too can skateboard.” – Annie Guglia, Vans Canadian athlete.

“For us, it is essential to make skateboarding accessible and allow youth of all backgrounds to have the chance to immerse themselves in this culture. This is why we are excited for the Dime Glory Challenge on the Esplanade of the Olympic Park to extend this great celebration of skateboarding to athletes and enthusiasts of all ages and allow them to practice this great sport  ” — Alex Auchu, Director of Marketing, Vans Canada.

Volunteers from the P45 Project, a park that volunteer skateboarders have designed, will hold a BBQ on site from 11.00 to 12.30, offering hot dogs and refreshments.

Starting at 2 pm, a giant screen will be set up in the Vans skatepark so those without tickets for the Dime Glory Challenge can watch the event for free.

Vans is a partner of the Dime Glory Challenge, a highly prestigious event in the skateboarding community that has been taking place in Montréal since 2015.

This year, profits from ticket sales will be donated to the The Dillon Ojo Lifeline Foundation. Created to honor the memory of the skateboarder Dillon Charles-Ojo who passed away in 2018, the organization works hard to help youth access sports and the arts through various activities.

In case of rain, the activity will be postponed to Sunday September 18 at the same times and Dime Glory Challenge also from 2 pm – 6 pm.
