Theatre at the Bell

Tuesday, Nov 1 , 7 p.m. to Wednesday, Nov 2 , 10 p.m.

On November 1st and 2nd, creators Reanne Spitzer, Sultanna Krispil, and Andrew Cameron are merging talents to bring you a double bill at one of St Laurent’s favourite entertainment venues, the Diving Bell. “We wanted to bring theatre out of its typical home in rigid auditoriums and into spaces that might pique the curiosity of people unaccustomed to traditional theatre decorum,” notes Krispil. Accordingly, their show content reflects the need to reimagine what theatre can be, with the company – JPEG.Fr3ckle Productionz – having the mandate  “theatre that feels like a party”.

Andrew Cameron will be performing his solo show, Down Boy! which premiered at the Montreal Fringe this year and was nominated for the Segal Center Award for Outstanding English Production. The play centers on a night and day in the life of “Konstantine,” a D-List internet celebrity who has been enjoying a dionysian life of drugs, booze, sex and general hedonism. He stumbles through a grapefruit flavoured vape cloud into a…podcast interview? Or is it an interrogation? Or worse? Or maybe nothing at all?

Felt Cute (Might Delete Later) is a two-hander, created and performed by Spitzer and Krispil, that reflects, explores and exaggerates the current culture of social media. It premiered at the Factory Theatre at Toronto Fringe earlier this year, and made the Toronto Star’s top pick list. “Spitzer and Krispil cut right to the pulse of zillennial malaise, injecting their dour commentary on the state of the world with dark, biting, sexual humour,” writes the Toronto star.
