Presence and Digressions – Pascale Girardin

Presence and Digressions – Pascale Girardin

Wednesday, Sep 18 , 5 p.m. to Sunday, Oct 6 , 5 p.m.

Projet Casa presents the first solo show, in Québec, of the acclaimed ceramic artist Pascale Girardin.

Pascale Girardin has been shaping clay in her Montréal studio for nearly 30 years. She and her team have worked with clients the world over, creating monumental public art sculptures in Montréal and elsewhere.

In this first solo exhibition, the artist unveils sculptures from her Figura series. These large, nearly human-sized pieces evoke the sensation of holding or being embraced, the way one body adjusts to another.

Testimonials to her creative process in the studio are also on display: the work-worn tarps that have covered her studio tables for the last five years, and the short films Avec Soin, Haptique and Procédés that juxtapose sounds and images from her studio environment. Also presented are unfired clay sketches and speculative objects, in dialogue or dormant—all poised to germinate in the artist’s mind

This exhibition is a unique opportunity to step into the intimate process of this experienced Quebec ceramicist and to explore the many ways she continually addresses the question, “When does creation become artwork?”
