Norté Tropical presents a Colombian music celebration with live bands & DJs on May 17

Friday, May 17 , 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Norté Tropical presents a Colombian music celebration:

Less Toches (Montreal)
Beto Jamaica Rey Vallenato (Colombia)

with guest: DJ Oonga

A captivating evening of cumbia and vallenato music, two emblematic musical genres of Colombia, which will bring together in a double set the explosive Montreal quintet Less Toches, and the legendary Beto Jamaica Rey Vallenato, the King of Colombian Vallenato.

Less Toches! This Montreal quintet, from various Colombian, Mexican and Argentinian origins, creates an explosive musical fusion, causing a big bang of cumbia that is at once unexpected, refreshing and intoxicating. With each show, they rediscover the deep magic of their childhood, offering us a heavenly sensation in a parallel dimension of the peasant and riverside spirit of cumbia colombiana and acordeón music. Pura parranda sabanera.

Will follow directly from Colombia, Beto Jamaica Rey Vallenato. Alberto “Beto” Jamaica is one of the main ambassadors of vallenato, one of the most popular traditional musics in his country. His music is a vibrant blend of cumbia, paseo and porro, all wrapped up in his unique vallenato style, carried by three instruments that constitute the heart of a traditional vallenato ensemble: the accordion, the emblematic instrument of vallenato, the guacharaca and the caja vallenata. Remaining faithful to its origins, the King of Vallenato adds a touch of modernity by integrating an electric bass, congas and timpani, offering an updated sound of this traditional music of the Caribbean coast.
