as Quebec-wide Release Gains Momentum!

Since November 22, Philippe Ducros’ La cartomancie du territoire (Foretelling the Land) has been captivating audiences in cinemas across Quebec, following its acclaimed premieres at the Festival de cinéma de la ville de Québec (FCVQ) in September and more recently at CINEMANIA in Montreal. Hailed as a “powerful and poetic” work, this introspective documentary continues to spark conversations about our collective relationship to land, history, and healing.

Arising from several stays in First Nations and Inuit communities, the film examines our connection to both Indigenous and natural reserves, exploring themes of colonization, land and thought.

Through testimonies gathered during a long, snow-covered road trip, La cartomancie du territoire (Foretelling the Land) raises a fundamental question: how can the history of First Nations help us reinvent our own paradigms, as individuals and as a society, in light of the responsibilities we bear toward our land and shared destiny?

Upcoming special English-language screening:

·         Cinéma du Musée – Montreal: December 6 (7:00 PM)
This screening includes subtitles for an English-speaking audience, offering a wider public the chance to experience this deeply resonant and essential film. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with the director, Philippe Ducros.

“The audacity with which La cartomancie du territoire tackles fundamental questions […] makes it as singular as it is profound.”
— Helen Faradji, Festival de cinéma de la ville de Québec

Rooted in the voices of First Nations and Inuit communities, La cartomancie du territoire (Foretelling the Land) weaves together poignant, poetic monologues that anchor Philippe Ducros’ reflective road trip. Delivered by First Nations actors Marco Collin (Ilnu), Sharon Fontaine-Ishpatao (Innue), and Charles Bender (Wendat), these stories resonate with authenticity, embodying the resilience and depth of nations that continue to stand against the tide of history.

The film’s aesthetic is deeply tied to its themes of healing through reconnection with the land and reclaiming identity through language. With Éli Laliberté’s vast and immersive cinematography, the majestic northern landscapes of Quebec become an emotional canvas. Accompanied by Florent Vollant’s melodic folk and haunting Innu-aimun chants, the journey becomes an evocative call to listen, reflect, and reconnect.
