Bodhran Lessons

Bodhran Lessons

Thursday, Sep 21, 7 p.m. to Thursday, Dec 7, 8 p.m.

Learn how to play bodhran, the Irish Frame Drum in a fun class for adults. There are 10 weekly classes followed by an informal recital where everyone gets to show what they learned in a group setting.

Register online or come to the registration evening at Hurley’s Irish pub on September 12th starting at 7:30pm. After you register, stay to enjoy the live seisiun (where traditional Irish music is played around the tables something like a “kitchen party,” happening in the next room. You’ll get a feel for what is possible for you after you take some classes.

This class is taught by Belfast-born Fred Graham who has over 50 years of percussion experience in playing, teaching and adjudicating competitions. He is a bodhran maker and teacher and brings with him extensive experience in traditional music percussion. Fred has a strong background in Irish and Scottish music, having competed in accordion and pipe bands in Ireland and here in Canada.

Fred’s skill is further augmented by many years of drumming with a Montreal jazz band. He is a keen session player, and was a percussionist with two well-known Montreal based, traditional Quebec dance troupes, with whom he has performed and toured extensively. Fred has also toured as percussionist with “The Irish Rovers” band since 2007. And he is the strong beat that has been driving the Siamsa Céilí Band for years!
