Check out some quality short films as Montreal filmmaker Adam Reider’s inaugural Rail City Roadshow kicks it into gear. Film Pop, the cinematic cousin of the Pop fest, kicks off tonight with a free screening of Searching for Sugar Man, a doc about mysterious ’70s rock star Sixtoo Rodriguez. PHI Centre (407 St-Pierre), 8 p.m., free

L’Orchestre d’Hommes-Orchestres’ Kurt Weill: Cabaret Brise-Jour starts its four-night run, with the music of Kurt Weill and texts by Bertold Brecht, Ogden Nash and Robert Denos. Usine-C (1345 Lalonde), 8 p.m., sliding scale

Pop Montreal presents the inaugural Stand-Up for Mile End, two shows feat. such comics as DeAnne Smith, Walter Lyng and Charles Ives. Rodos en Haut (5581 Parc), 8:30 and 11 p.m., $10 each or both for $15

It’s opening night for Metachroma Theatre company’s production of Shakespeare’s Richard III, and to celebrate they’re letting everyone in on the cheap. Segal Centre Studio (5170 Côte Ste-Catherine), 8 p.m., PWYC
