The World Press Photo Exhibition, collecting the best photojournalism of the past year, opens today at Bonsecours Market. 325 de la Commune E., 10 a.m.10 p.m., $13/$10 students. Runs to Sept. 28.

POP Montreal is throwing an afternoon launch party to celebrate the arrival of this year’s official festival program. Head to Urban Forest alongside the McCord Museum to pick up your copy and catch live sets by She-Devils and Country, plus a DJ set by Blue Hawaii. 690 Sherbrooke W., 12–3 p.m., free

Bring home a new furry friend from the SPCA’s Cat Adoption Day for the special rate of $50 for adult cats (five months and up), which includes spaying/neutering, shots and microchipping. 5215 Jean-Talon W., 12–7 p.m.

Details are scarce but Ping Pong Club’s getting their corn on for 5à7 this evening. 5788 St-Laurent, 5 p.m.

If you haven’t RSVPed for the first Passovah Summer Fest show, unfortunately it’s sold-out, but there’s another solid MTL show (and dance party?) happening tonight: Socalled plays Café Campus with Random Recipe (in duo form), Seba and Gigi French, plus DJ Burt Cokain spinning between bands. 57 Prince-Arthur E., 8:30 p.m., $16/$20
