Spike Lee in Do the Right Thing

You might be familiar with la Cuvée d’Hiver, a festival of spirits, food and rock ’n’ roll that takes place every February. Well now it’s time for the first annual Cuvée d’été, bringing microbrews and cocktails to Place Emilie-Gamelin, along with food and live music. The three-day event begins today, with rockabilly duo les Deuxluxes playing sets at 8 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Berri & de Maisonneuve, 3–11 p.m., $8 for a glass, $1/alcohol sample

The Ile Soniq festival (coming up in August) hosts a free, all-ages outdoor pre-party at the Peel Basin, featuring Paris & Simo, Zaxx and Dylan Aiden. Peel Basin (Peel & de la Commune), 5–10 p.m., free

Skateboards and bikes are centre-stage at the Jackalope Action Sports Festival at Olympic Park, featuring three days of competition and demonstration, beginning today. 4141 Pierre-de-Coubertin, 5–11 p.m. (afterparty at TRH Bar)

It’s hip hop night at Marché des Possibles, with local producer/DJs Kenlo Craqnuques and Vlooper and rapper Eman (of Alaclair Ensemble) playing the festive Mile End green space, which (for the uninitiated) features a bar, food trucks and vendors selling edible goods, art and accessories. Cinema Out of the Box screens Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing (1989) in conjunction with with the Black Students’ Network of McGill, in commemoration of the anniversary of Eric Garner’s death and subsequent building of the Black Lives Matter movement.
