ChihChien
From Chih-Chien Wang’s The Act Of Forgetting

Whether you want to join it or avoid it, a massive anti-austerity demo in Old Montreal’s financial district is planned for this afternoon, with students being joined by unions and other civil society groups. (Read about the relationship between students and unions and where this movement might be going here.) Square Victoria, 1 p.m.

The Darling Foundry hosts a double photography vernissage today, for Chih-Chien Wang’s The Act Of Forgetting and Stephanie Loveless’s For Romantic Fantasy. 745 Ottawa, 5 p.m., free

Fresh Paint invites you to their new gallery space for a vernissage today to check out a solo exhibition called Work in Progress by French-born artist MC Baldassari. 256 Ste-Catherine E., 6–9 p.m., free

If you’ve never seen local rock ‘n roll juggernaut les Breastfeeders, tonight’s gig in the cave-like confines of l’Escogriffe — part of the venue’s ongoing 15th anniversary celebration — is the perfect opportunity. Openers are No Aloha and Nancy Pants. 4467 St-Denis, 9 p.m.

Another rock show worth seeing tonight is Nashville alt bros Diarrhea Planet with Left Right and New Swears. Casa del Popolo (4873 St-Laurent), 9 p.m., $10/$13

Your host DL Jones is celebrating his birthday with a FamJam at Newspeak (ex Cabaret Underworld) tonight, with DJs Kyle Hall, Kris Guilty, Motions and M. Bootyspoon. 1403 Ste-Elisabeth, 10 p.m.
