Two different conferences are happening today for those interested in issues around the human cost of resource extraction: At McGill, three indigenous panelists will discuss their experiences on the front lines of Leading Land Defence (McGill University Leacock Building, #26, 25 p.m., free), and at Concordia, World of Matter leads the symposium Extractive Ecologies and Unceded Terrains in conjunction with an exhibition launching at the Leonard and Bina Ellen Gallery (Concordia EV Building, EV-7.735, 1515 Ste-Catherine W., 9 a.m.6 p.m., free).

If you haven’t yet checked out the new Sophie Calle and Simon Starling exhibitions at the MAC, tonight’s Nocturne event is the perfect opportunity. The gallery’s event features Saintwoods crew DJs Myfrienderic, Nick Wisdom, RYAN Playground and Dave Luxe, along with special performances by X+1, a cocktail bar and projections. 185 Ste-Catherine W., 5 p.m.2 a.m., $14/$10 students, free for MACarte holders

Articule’s annual members’ show, Prestige, launches tonight with a vernissage featuring works by Stéphanie Beaulieu, Kaeten Bonli, Jenny Lin and more, with four performances spread across the evening. 262 Fairmount W., 7 p.m., free

Montreal dreamwave band Receivers launch a new record, The Air on the Set, with openers the Thin Blue Line (feat. ex-members of the Stills, Chinatown, Statue Park). Read our interview with Receivers here. Bar le Ritz PDB (179 Jean-Talon W.), 9 p.m., $10

Also launching tonight is Break of Day, the debut album by Montreal native Jesse Stone, a folk/country-oriented singer-songwriter now based in NYC — see our interview with him here. The opening act is Po Lazarus. La Sala Rossa (4848 St-Laurent), 9 p.m., $10

Finally someone’s organized the perfect activity for a cold February night: pack a blanket and head to La Passe for tonight’s Blanket Fort Concert, featuring music from Brigitte Naggar and DF. Attendees are encouraged to leave the blankets behind to be donated to Renaissance for people in need. 1214 de la Montagne, 10 p.m., $5/PWYC
